In Memory of Laurel

Our leader, Laurel Smith, passed away on June 23, 2016, after a long struggle with cancer. Laurel focused her knowledge and passion to increase awareness of the connection between people and their world by helping others understand where their food comes from and how to nurture a sustainable environment. First with Urban Harvest, serving as President, then founding Houston Urban Gardeners with the mission to support Houstonians in growing their own food and eating more fresh local produce. We will continue on in her honor.

A memorial service for Laurel will be held on July 15, Friday at 2 pm at the Unity Church Pyramid, 2929 Unity Drive, Houston 77057. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Houston Urban Gardeners.
